Helping the homeless...and the environment...through making sleeping mats from recycled plastic grocery bags

Streetsboro UMC and the Kent State University Alumni Association join forces each year to provide greater comfort and safety for homeless people living on the streets by making sleeping mats through a process called "plarning," making "plastic yarn" out of grocery bags and then weaving that "yarn" into these durable, washable mats.
The mats provide a barrier that is both comfortable and functional, avoiding exposure issues normally associated with direct contact with the ground or hard surfaces like concrete and asphalt pavement.

The Lenten season takes us through the final triumphant days of Jesus. We heard His teachings on loving God, loving others and being a servant to the needs of others over ourselves. We saw Jesus demonstrate that servant mindset when He washed the feet of His disciples and then commanded that others do the same. We saw His ultimate service with His death on the cross, and then His greatest miracle: rising from the dead and then proclaiming to all people the promise of eternal life through His sacrifice for us.
