Each year Streetsboro UMC partners with Kent State University in this unique event

Helping the homeless...and the environment...through making sleeping mats from recycled plastic grocery bags

Streetsboro UMC and the Kent State University Alumni Association join forces each year to provide greater comfort and safety for homeless people living on the streets by making sleeping mats through a process called "plarning," making "plastic yarn" out of grocery bags and then crocheting that "yarn" into these durable, washable mats.
The mats provide a barrier that is both comfortable and functional, avoiding exposure issues normally associated with direct contact with the ground or hard surfaces like concrete and asphalt pavement.
